Abstract
一橋大学のはじまりである「商法講習所」は森有礼によって明治8年、鯛味噌屋の2階を借りて開かれたという説は本学の「史実」として定着しており、細谷新治はこの店を「鈴木吉兵衛の鯛味噌屋」であると突き止めた。しかし今回調査を行ったところ、「鈴木吉兵衛の鯛味噌屋」が銀座に開店したのは早くとも明治10年末であり、開所時の商法講習所と時間的接点を持たないという結論に至った。
It is well known that the Institute of Business Training was first located on the second floor of tai miso grocery shop in 1875; according to Shinji Hosoya, the shop was Suzuki’s. This paper shows that Hosoya’s conclusion is unlikely since the shop was opened in 1877 or 1878.
